To finish 2nd and 3rd in the historic Hickstead Derby is an incredible achievement, especially on one Billy Stud bred Equine America Billy Diamo (Cevin Z X Andiamo) and the other being Dublon, their first show together as a new combination! William rode two master class clear rounds which we know the class is often just won on that, but unfortunately, it didn’t go our way in the jump-off which is gutting after all that hard work, but we are delighted for David Simpson making it his first Derby win. You can never predict that class and this year has certainly added to the history books and Will has added another record-breaking result to his CV!
The Showcase was a gorgeous evening with a big turnout. This did create a big atmosphere for these young horses, but we were proud of how they coped their best considering they haven’t left home and had 2 new riders on them they didn’t know! We look forward to welcoming a crowd again tomorrow (27th June) to our base at Jordan’s Farm where we will ride them all again, and then it’s time to sell!
Lots of great results from the other Classes at Hickstead, highlights being:
Equine America Billy Picador (Billy Mexico X Animo) placed twice in the 1.50m 4* classes
Lucy Townley didn’t touch a pole all week on Lizzie Bunn’s Billy Mojito (Billy Tudor X Dutch Capitol) in the 5YOs then placed in the Final
Helen Wilson did exactly the same on Billy Vandros (Toulon X Riesling Du Monselet) in the 6YOs
The 7&8 YO final was a success with William coming 2nd on Billy Etna (Billy Congo X Cevin Z) and Pippa close behind in 3rd on Billy Mufasa (Billy Mexico X Billy Congo)
Lucy finished her show with a speedy 2nd in the Doney Championships on the lovely Billy Von Papan (Billy
Congo X Cassini I)
We always enjoy our Hickstead weeks with so much exciting sport, lots of support from good friends and owners and luckily gorgeous weather makes all the hard work fun!
