William and Billy Buckingham jumped a super round in the Longines BHS King George V Gold Cup on the Friday, finishing in the placings with just one time fault.
This meant that that following his placing in the Derby trail, his tremendous win in the Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby and then this placing, William and Buckingham topped the points system and they were awarded the Gold medal for the leading rider/horse combination for the Hickstead season.
The following day, it was Pippa’s turn who had entered Billy Congo, now 17 years old for The BHS Queen Elizabeth Gold Cup, following on from their recent form at Knokke, Belgium where they were clear and placed in the 2* 1.45m Grand prix.
The pair flew round the 1.50m course for the first round with ease and joined the small number of 4 for the jump-off round where they finished as one of only two double clears, just behind William Whitaker for 2nd place.
